Silica Flour

Silica flour is used in oilwell cements to inhibit strength retrogression at elevated temperatures. It can also contribute as a cement extender by increasing low shear viscosity and preventing cement sedimentation

Imerys silica flour has a high silica content, around 99%. And it is also characterised by its fine particle size distribution.

Application for Silica Flour

At elevated temperatures changes in the hydration phases produced by the cement-water reaction can cause a strength retrogression. The addition of silica flour can adjust the phase transformations and inhibit this strength reduction and the associated increase in permeability that occurs in set Portland cement.
