A high-specific gravity and finely divided solid material used to increase density of a drilling fluid. Sufficient fluid density is required to maintain borehole stability and to prevent invasion of formation fluids into the well.
The use of acid-soluble weighting agents to drill producing zones is advantageous as they can be removed during well completion, thereby eliminating any formation damage that may have been caused.
Products from our large portfolio of carbonates (marble-based, limestone calcium carbonates and dolomite) have a specific gravity of 2.6 to 2.8 and unlike other weighting agent materials they are acid soluble.
